Another sunny day and there were 23 of us again!
Following requests I decided to include the canal in our run this morning, despite it being outside of Lyme. In this weather it’s very runner friendly (those of you who ran the Stockport Trail Half Marathon will confirm that it was less nice immediately following Storm Doris in February!) although as it’s lower than Lyme Park itself, it does mean there’s a hill to be had!
We started with a full lap of the millpond, before heading off through Crow and Elmerhurst Woods. Upon reaching Red Lane we turned left and headed out of the Park, taking a footpath through a field and into a nice wooded area with loads of bluebells doing their thing.
From there we rejoined Red Lane and followed it down to the canal. We went along the canal towards Higher Poynton where we rejoined the road. Of course, now below the level of Lyme, there was only one way, and that was UP!!
In fact this section is the beginning of the New Year’s Eve ‘Bowstones Fell Race’ which, if you’ve not done before, is a really good event. It goes through our favourite (and not so favourite) haunts within the Park itself. The hill up to Windgather, whilst not too steep, is rather long. Good to see some of the Trust the Trail techniques being deployed!
And then back to the Timber Yard for outdoor refreshments!
You may be aware that earlier this year Run England re-branded itself as Runtogether.
National Trust appear to want to promote running groups utilising their properties within this new Runtogether framework. Our page is https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/LymeRunners/ and you’ll be able to see that all the Tuesday runs are listed out so that people can book onto them.
If you haven’t signed up to Runtogether yourself you can do this for free. Just use this link: https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/Account/SignUp/ . From the Runtogether site you can see what groups are meeting and when, and you’re able to book on to runs, either with us, or with other Runtogether groups.
Previously we used to use paper forms to collect contact information from new members of the group, but this allows you to do it once and it will work for all Runtogether groups.
